She was a member of the Church of The Holy Family, a devoted Christian and had many friends who will learn with deep regret of her death. In their sad loss the family had the sincere sympathy of many friends. Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by three sons, Messrs: Frank, Augustus and Phillip Batastini, and four daughters, Mrs Rose Bryant, Mrs Mary Brescia, Mrs Alice Peabody and Miss Lula Batastini. A niece and nephew, Miss Albeua Batastini and Mr Eugene Batastini, also survive her. The funeral will take place from the Church of The Holy Family this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Funeral This Morning. _B Mr. Clemente Batastini _bdied at his residence, No. 1805 Hamilton Avenue at 7:45 Sunday night, after an illness of several months. The deceased suffered an attack of lagrippe last February, from the effects of which he never fully recovered, although his death was quite unexpected, and consequently a severe shock to his family and friends. The deceased was born in Peano di Correglia, Italy, April 16, 1837, and came to this country when only twenty years of age. Soon after his arrival in America he came to Columbus, arriving in this city in 1858. He went into the cigar and grocery business here that year, and with the exception of two or three years during the war between the states, had been constantly in business in this city since that time. He was a member of the home guard during the Civil War. During his career in Columbus Mr. Batastini accumulated quite a considerable amount of this world's goods. His wife, who was Miss Sarah Dean, preceded him to the the grave about sixteen years ago. To their union were born seven children, all of whom survive him. They are, Mrs. Rosa Bryant, Mrs. Mary Brescia, Frank J. Batastini, Mrs. Alice Peabody, Mrs. Lila Kendrick, A.F.Batastini, and Phillip J. Batastini, all of whom reside in Columbus. Two brothers also survive him both of whom reside in Italy. He also leaves quite a number of other relatives and many friends to morn his demise. Mr. Batastini was quite well known, especially among the older citizens of Columbus, who esteemed him for his integrity and business reliability. He was of genial, sunny disposition, and was very popular among his extensive acquaintance. He numbered among his friends a great many of the poor people of the city, to whom he was always very kind and considerate, and his store was a center for them. He felt a sincere attachment for the land which was his adopted home and was a patriot and as devoted to his new as if he had been born in Georgia , instead of in a far off Italy. To those who knew him intimately , the news of his death comes with a peculiar sadness. The funeral will take place from the Church of the Holy Family at 9 o'clock this morning , the service being conducted by Rev Father Schlenke . Then interment will be in Linwood cemetery. -In 1862 an exemption from military service was issued for Clemente stating that He was a citizen of Great Britian. He located other Italian musicians in Amercia and helped then to come to the south. Rose was well liked by the society group for whom he played most of the time. From about 1892 to 1920 no wedding dance, large reception, riverboat excursion or other party was complete without the Mike Rose Orchestra of"The Italian Band" as it was also called. Remembered by Mrs. Maude Dixon was band member Joseph Brescia who carried a harp on his back from the streetcar to the house or hall of the evening's program. He rode at the rear end of the trolly car, holding his harp beside him. after breaking his leg at a warm springs, Georgia concert. Mr Brescia taught music at home . Other musicians working with Mike Rose were George Brescia brother of Joseph; Mike Benedetto; Thomas C. Banks; and Mrs Margaret E. Battle, pianist for a short time. The death of Mrs Brescia was a shock, as Mr Brescia had just left his wife and she was thought to have been getting well. Mr Brescia was on the train enroute to Columbus from Warm Springs and upon arrival in Columbus was told by friends of his wife's death. The remains will be brought to Columbus via the Southern Railway Monday morning and the funeral service will immeditally follow from the Church of The Holy Family.
